I received a Scotty with a little stamping issue, backwards E and an off center J on the back lower edge. Question, what would be the proper belts to use and, with what compounds. 120 Sand paper or Trizact, Medium belt with brown compound or Sisal with black. I’m assuming finish with white belt white compound. I never worked on a Scotty and don’t need a 400.00 replacement bill.

I’ll check with our guys but pretty sure the Scotty Newport 2 is plated, so any sanding/grinding is going compromise the plating. How deep is the stamping? Hopefully I will have some more information for you tomorrow.

The head is probably 303 Stainless. If it is:
1. Use a very light sanding with 200 grit or finer to remove the lettering.
2. Use a medium scotch bright wheel or belt for a satin look.
3. Use a white belt with white compound for a high polish.
A couple of notes: The head could be plated and if it is you do run the risk of burning through the plating when you sand.
You may need to run the entire length of the rail where the lettering is to make the finish match across the back.
This is the information our guy gave me that has worked on some Cameron putters in the past. Again, can’t be 100% sure of the material or if it’s plated, but the research I was able to do indicated it is a 303 stainless. Still could be plated even though it’s stainless, but might not be.

Thanks Britt, I don’t think its plated. Light sand, med and polish as I normally do to clean up irons. Ahh cleaning/regrooving irons that’s just around the corner.

Stamp is not deep, definitely not a full mallet hit. Hard to get paint to stay, wiping it removes it from the letter.
