Love the FDI 2i. Went to install a heavier weight to see how it’d change my launch trajectory and found that the threads and weight that came with the head had some rust on it.
Easy to brush off but trying to think of how it got in there, best guess is something related to change in temps and condensation? Don’t think there’s any other way for moisture to get in, no cracks that I can see.
Unless it was in there when it was new I’m not sure how it could have developed. The hosel and body are carbon steel and there can be some surface rust in the hosel. That is why on all heads, the hosels should be cleaned before assembly. Carbon steel heads, all of them, can have and usually do some traces of it inside the hosel if they sit on the shelf unassembled for a while. I just checked the FDI’s we have in our design studio, and there was a little. Nothing to worry about. I checked other brands we have in our MPF database and many of them have it to. Not unusual on carbon steel heads. Nothing to worry about, just clean it and assemble.
