I am reshafting a set of Ping G410’s that have the AWT 2.0 regular flex shafts in them to a UST Recoil 65 Graphite. Do I want to make the shafts the length as they are in steel. I ask this because I see Ping graphite and steel are built same length on corresponding iron sets.. just wondering. I show the Ping G410 7 iron steel at 37.5 length and the UST Recoil 65 coming in at a 38.5 that I could butt trim, if I needed.
Ping makes the lengths of graphite and steel the same, but they weight the heads differently to accommodate the swing weight spec. so just be aware of that. if the graphite shaft your installing is 20 grams lighter, as an example, you may loose approximately 2 swing weight points, assuming the same grip weight. On the UST Recoil 65 in taper tip, the 38.5″ is designated for a #7 iron, and you would install and cut to final playing length from the butt. The 38.5″ is the raw length in taper for a #7 iron in that model, so it is intended to be installed with no tip trim and then trimmed to final playing length from the butt end.
