I’m a retail buyer…no special accounts. I’ve been attracted to Maltby equipment mainly because of the nice deals offered through the premium club paks. I’m a pretty simple fit…a tip-stiff steel shaft, standard length and lie. By offering only the TT lite in a pak, you’ve effectively taken away the pak discount for me. Rationally, you cite your clubs are still more affordable than OEM offerings, but it still feels like something has been taken from me. Also, about the “custom” thing…I can demo all the OEM irons, comparing club to club shaft to shaft on launch monitors at any PGA Tour Superstore I come across. Where can I demo TS1’s to make the same informed decision? I can’t…not where I live. So the other value in purchasing club paks from Maltby is that the (monetary) risk/reward has always been a reasonable proposition for me. I’ve had some good luck and some not-so-good luck with Maltby clubs over the years. When they haven’t worked out for me, well, then, I’m pretty much stuck with them…because there is no resale value at all…can’t even trade them in for a few bucks. So now that the discounted pak prices are not available to me, I have to give much more consideration to the risk/reward of Maltby clubs. Not sure why you didn’t consider pak upgrades on a per-shaft and/ or per-grip basis…but still offer set discounts.
Britt, I have to say thank you for being receptive to the customer base. There was a high level of anxiety on some of the other forums and I got a few PMs with some animated conversations.
I see the custom shop as being a great option for people to really get a special build for themselves. It should prove to be a great tool moving forward.
Maltby has proven over and over recently how a world class product can be offered at a more than reasonable price. In a way it’s not really fair to be putting out product that if it had a Callawy or Taylormade stamp on it… would qualify to be iron of the year any way you looked at it. The new KE4 TC driver head is another product that will shock a lot of people.
Again thank you.
