This one is tricky. I’ve got a customer with a Nakashima 2 hybrid. Loves it, and the shaft. The shaft unfortunately has a glued graphite extender in the butt end.
Im not sure if heat on the butt end would release the glue. I could try it.
My other option is to drill out the extender down to the shaft only.

I guess I would ask why do you need to remove the extender? If he wants it shorter you could just cut it. the part inside the shaft will not effect the playability of the shaft. If you want to attempt to remove it, I would not drill it. You could try heating slowly with a heat gun to see if it would break loose, but it is tricky. Graphite shafts are made of epoxy resin and fiber and when you heat the shaft too much, the epoxy resin in the shaft will break down and become damaged. You could heat a hot rod and heat it from the inside, which would little the heat exposure somewhat to the outside of the shaft. If it were me, I would only try the hot rod method and be very careful not to heat to much.

OK. I understand why the need to remove the extension now. Bassara is a lightweight product so the walls are probably thin. Let me know if you are successful. MCA does still offer several Bassara products.

For those following this thread on removing extensions. I was able to drill out a portion of the extension leaving 1/4 inch hole. Then I found a 1/4 inch machine bolt.
I then heated a machine bolt to red hot and screwed in the machine bolt. I did this a couple of times. I was able to break the epoxy bond and the extension was pulled out. I was able to insert a new extension and cut to length for the customer. Thanks to everyone who offered solutions.

I believe the OD on the hosel is .370. If all fails I can replace the shaft I think. Think it’s a Bassara. (Something like that)
