It is necessary to have the washer if you don’t want the screw to come out out every time you adjust it. Other than that it does not effect anything. It can be replaced, but it it’s not real easy and takes some patience. Not sure I can describe how to do it correctly, but I will try. Take the replacement washer, and while holding the adaptor upside down, place the washer on the end of the adaptor. Next, while holding the head upside down, gently align the hosel over the adaptor without moving the washer. Once the adaptor and washer rest at the bottom of the hosel, align the screw and screw it in the adaptor. This will set the washer back in place and keep the screw from coming out when adjusting.
Like I said, it’s not easy but it can be done. We actually have developed a tool that makes a lot easier, but we only have one prototype and are working on making it available. With the tool you can replace the stop washers in any adjustable driver with a similar design, which is basically all of them.
If you want to send the driver back we can do it for you. That is another option.
