The last time I reshafted my mid-80’s MacGregor Muirfield irons was in the late 80’s or early 90’s if I recall.

I purchased a True Temper .355 iron set from Maltby with copy that indicated something like “a special iron shaft designed for hard hitting players”.

There was a TT part number but I have forgotten what it was. Something relatively routine such as DBIS, etc.

I’d like to obtain more of these shafts as they remain outstanding in terms of playing characteristics.

Does anyone have access to catalogs from this period that can help?

I looked back and found in The Golfworks 1991 catalog the True Temper NDIS “Designed for hard hitting players with it’s low flexibility”. I’m pretty sure this is what you were referring to. These shafts have not been manufactured for almost 30 years, so finding any of them would be or will be difficult. They had 2″ steps that graduated into 1″ steps. You could buy them $5.20 each back in 1991. I would say the closest think to it today would simply be the Dynamic Gold. It is low trajectory shaft that is still the standard for a lot of “hard hitting players”. It was described back in 1991 for “low handicap players” and it’s design hasn’t really changes since then. 1 3/4″ steps on the Dynamic Gold .355″ taper tip shafts.

At least you know now what the shafts you were looking for most likely were. Hope this helps.

That’s absolutely accurate in terms of the step pattern.

These are very rigid however, not lifeless. I have vintage 7.3 Precision shafts in a duplicate set of irons and they can’t quite match the unique TT’s.

I also have X100-300’s and they also don’t perform as well.

You’re welcome. The NDIS were some stout shafts for sure. Precision 7.3’s as well and the DG’s X1 and X3’s. But definitely different patterns and feels. Knew some strong guys back in the day that played the NDIS. I wasn’t one of them but I did play the precision for a time in 7.0, 6.8 in the wedges, if I remember correctly.

Jogged the memory with this one for sure.
