since many players suffer trying to keep their hands ahead of the club head on short game shots I’m wondering why wedge heads are almost never offered with offset.
Good question. We have done wedges in the past that had some offset. Our current wedges that go with the STi set of irons do have .100″ offset vs the .040″ offset of the stand alone M-Series + wedges. A stand alone wedge series with offset is something we might consider doing again. The difficulty is to try and gauge how many players, even though an offset would be better for them, will actually purchase and let the design work for them. More traditional shapes and offsets have always sold better. Cost to develop is not inexpensive and we have to determine if the cost to develop is worth the projected sales. We have seen it happen both ways. You develop something thinking it will have limited appeal and it explodes, and we have designed product we knew would be big sellers and they have not. Both will perform at a high level, it’s just whether or not you can get some sales momentum, word of mouth, success stories, etc. and get enough people to try them. Thanks for the question.
