Makes sense on putters and the science does back it up that heavier putter head weights with a back weighting on the grip end can assist in eliminating jerky or inconsistent strokes. How much and how heavy is totally dependent on the player and what works for them with regards to feel and their ability to control the distance.
As far as playing clubs, not as much science out there, but there are plenty of players and believers that do back weight and believe it can help with the transition from the top of the back swing through impact, generating consistency and speed. I personally have tested many variations and did not find any benefit, but that was just me.
You really will just have to start experimenting. You will need a mechanism for adding the weight in the butt end. There is the Tour Lock Pro system that we carry, but that might be too much and too expensive to use just to experiment with. Maybe not. We do have our Universal Counter-Balancing System (GW0113, GW0114) and some simple lead counterweights for steel shafts (CWC, CW8, CW12, CW16, etc. up to CW28(g)). You can probably make these work for graphite as well, just might have to modify them some.
Hope this helps.
