Every player is different and absolutely optimum height changes with swing speed. If by “optimum height” we mean the best height to produce the most distance. There are generalized charts out there that show swing speed, ball speed, launch angle ranges and optimum ball spin ranges to produce the “optimum” distance. I do not have one in a format that I can share on this forum, but I will see what I can find. Several years ago we took several of these charts and built a composite or average based on what most of the launch monitor companies put out there. I just put in “Optimal launch angle and spin chart for drivers” into google and several popped up, so I don’t think what I have is much different.
The key thing to remember is that for every club head speed, there is an optimal launch angle that results in the optimal height that produces the optimal spin and produces the optimal distance. don’t thin I have used the word “optimal this much in a long time (Ha). Also, there can be optimal launch angles for conditions, both course and weather, and also optimal launch conditions that players prefer that may not be optimal for distance. For instance, my optimal launch for distance is higher than what I like to play. I believe I can control distance and spin much better at a lower trajectory than optimal. So, it’s not always about just distance.
Hope this helps.
