My wife and I are avid golfers. I would like to begin regripping our clubs, cleaning polishing and repairing clubs and as I learn would like to build clubs. I have a shop that was just built with this, and other things, in mind. It is 24×24 with a 20 foot long workbench. I have been watching you tube videos of various club related work, repair and regrouping etc., My question would be, what tools and equipment would you recommend I obtain first and any other advice you might give a beginner. Any books or videos you would recommend? I have purchased one or two of Ralph Maltby’s books. Any info and advice appreciated

I would recommend attending a class at Golfworks in Ohio. Since you’re both avid golfers, you could turn it into a golf vacation!

You would get exposed to a lot of equipment, how to use it, and some work arounds. You could pick up all the equipment you think you might need at the facility.

While not a comprehensive list, a good start would be:

Vice

bench ruler

swingweight scale

digital scale

small chop saw with abrasive blade

belt sander

butane torch

ferrule starter
