Britt I am 84 yrs young with driver speed of 70 have played for 60 some years-the ball does not go anymore with my irons. Can you suggest a set of irons and shaft for me-do I need to go to Ladies clubs-or use all woods? I don’t want to quit, but playing anymore is like working more than playing. When I played my best I was more comfortable hitting a 2 iron off the deck than a driver off the tee-now they do not go.
Jrob, if you’re hitting them in the heel, checking on your swing and timing is more likely what needs some adjustment, and probably not a major adjustment. A different iron design doesn’t cause shots to be struck on the toe or heel. The ST-i set works well for shots off the toe, but the center of the face is still the “sweet spot.” I suggest getting with your teaching professional. I think you’ll find that it’s just a fairly simple swing or set up adjustment. I have found that to be true with those I have taught through the years. Hope this helps! Michael

I apologize for the delay. Michael is right on in his suggestion. We designed the entire Ltech line for players that need assistance generating speed and lift. The cg locations, lofts, weight and flex distribution of the shafts were set up to help what you are challenged with. There are other options, but take at look at the LTech first and if they are not appealing to you, I can give you some different options that would have similar playing characteristics to the LTech.

Thank you Britt and Michael, I have looked at those clubs and would be interested in any other options you might suggest. I ordered the STI club Pak with the Kuro Kage shaft in A flex-but I am not having much luck with them-if I understand the design of the club as explained” it is for the average player who hits toward the toe of the club” Well I keep hitting in the heel of the club-am I going to have to change my swing to use these clubs?

Jrob, I’d like to encourage you to consider the Maltby LTech line. They are designed to help get a higher launch and are recommended for swing speeds in your range. They are great for seniors.
I’d also recommend the LTech graphite shafts in the A flex. (Since they are on back order right now, you could also try the Maltby MPF series of shafts for woods, hybrids and irons, also in the A flex. They appear to be in stock.)
