Good Day Maltby and Crew !! Question is the last few years Cap back irons have been popular i know they may use different materials for their caps per company like Ping I 230 , Taylormade new irons QI and Stealth, Callaway Smoke and new Titleist T 200 and a few others that have what they call a Cap that Covers and Mutes the sound where all the fixings (technology) inside the cavity they look amazing !! Because it’s covered like ( Metal Woods) does that mean more energy into the ball more distance Better sound and feel ? Unlike irons that don’t have a cap in the back that covers the cavity ? And will Maltby ever do a cap back design in the future if there is a performance difference?

Never heard the term cap back. Guess I’m out of the loop. A cap, as you call it, is usually there to cover weights or to cover injection holes when a polymer or some material is injected. Ping has used them to cover weights used to fine tune swing weight at assembly. They, the caps, have 0 (zero) affect on the playability. Certain materials can help dampen vibrations and may enhance feel, but when a polymer is injected into to an iron the polymer does that and no cap is going to add to the feature.

So, as far as us having one in the future, wouldn’t any medallion or material that is put in a cavity to cover something or is just for cosmetic purposes fall into the cap category? I don’t know. If so, we have done them for years. If the cap you are referring to is something different, I can’t tell you if we will or won’t. If we need one for a particular design I suppose we might, but again the way I consider them or understand them, they are not a performance enhancing design feature.
