How much does centre of gravity change when a shaft of different weight is added.

Length of shaft is so important as to keeping heel and toe aligned.

As irons are graduated by weight a move in weight or length of shaft must effect centre of gravity would that be true.

Would you need to take 5g of the head if you added 5g to the shaft?

Do OEM give what weight shaft that robot testing is done with their irons.

Life is not easy for me needing 1inch longer and 2 degree upright.

Swingweights and dead weight are a nightmare.

The center of gravity of the clubhead does not change but the center of gravity of the assembled club does change. A 9 gram change of shaft weight is equal to a 1 swingweight change. If the shaft gets heavier the swingweight gets heavier and if the shaft weight gets lighter the swingweight gets lighter. This is assuming that the actual balance point of the shaft itself does not change from one shaft to another. A shaft with a lower balance point, more weight towards the tip end of the shaft, will create a heavier swingweight and a shaft with a higher balance point, more weight towards the butt end of the shaft, will create a lighter swingweight. In a custom assembly if a longer set of clubs is needed and a more normal swingweight is needed the manufacture will use a lighter weight set of clubheads. Generally they are not a lot lighter but anything thing can help. In doing a longer set of irons, lighter clubheads weights if possible, lighter shafts if possible and shafts with a higher balance point would all help to keep the swingweight and total weight lighter. I say “if possible” meaning that you still want shafts and clubheads that are best for your game.

Thanks Jim! I did try that and hooked the ears off the ball. Quite liked the flight of a XP115 S tipped 1.5 inches in a 3 iron titleist ap2 712. I will Probably fit XP115 x any other suggestions appreciated.
