In the past I have had very good luck with the FST115 Pro iron shafts. Getting older (76) and would like to try a lighter shaft but don’t want to go to graphite… don’t like the lack of feedback from graphite. I know the stepless FST line plays a little softer than flex but would the FST90 play similar or a little firmer than the FST115 Pro? (I don’t know if I should trim the 90 to R or soft step to match the Pro). Thanks in advance for your great knowledgeable suggestions and advice!

The FST 90 is a little firmer than the FST 115, so you could soft step it if you wanted it to be closer to the FST 115. I would always want it to be more on the flexible side vs the firmer side if I was trying to go lighter and softer because my club head speed, or strength, or whatever were not quite what they used to be. Not saying that is the case with you, but more flexible and lighter is the direction I take a player when we are trying to maintain or improve speed and trajectory.

I remember asking Ralph a similar question about getting older on this forum at least 10 years or so ago. I very clearly remember he told me that as we get older, not to go to softer shafts, but rather to go for a softer tip. At that time I then chose the FST Pro 115.
