Welcome. The Callaway Hawkeye VFT have one of the highest MPF’s we have ever measured. Very forgiving and playable head and I would say is perfect for a developing junior. I am not aware of any forged designs that would come anywhere close. Our Maltby forgings are the most playable we see and they are mostly in the Super Game Improvement category. Do not get caught up in the terminology and the belief that a “forged” club is better or offers something that an”investment cast” club can not. The terms forged and cast simply describe a manufacturing process, nothing else. I can forge stainless steel or carbon steel. I can investment cast stainless steel or carbon steel. The process that is used is usually determined by the design and which process is best for a particular design. While it is true that, generally speaking, carbon steel has softer properties than stainless steel, the fact is I can heat treat stainless to have the same hardness properties as a carbon steel. I think most people think that carbon steel is only forged and therefore is only used for “players” type designs like muscle backs and players cavity back designs. Not always the case. Anyway, if you and your son believe a “blade” type of design is something you want to try, I do suggest finding the most playable one possible. I would say this to anyone, not just a developing young player. Find the most playable club that has a design that suits your eye. If the way the clubs looks doesn’t matter, then anyone should play the most playable club possible if they want to see better results on off center hits. You may be limited to looking at the major brands to find a left handed “Forged” blade type design. Most of the latest models we have measured and their MPF’s are on our website. Hope this helps.

I love the VFT clubs. The only issue is bending them to the correct lie angle since they are cast not forged. I have another vft that is currently not in his bag that I am going to see if I have any luck with bending without breaking. This is the hurdle I’m dealing with I thought if there was a comparable playable forged head then I could have more leeway bending to the correct angle.
