Brit-In your research do “players distance irons” have hot spots or is that a fallacy? I’ve had some and it seems like they do.
Thanks!

Based on my experience, testing and understanding of materials, construction etc., it is a fallacy. Never experienced it personally either. I do know that when you hit that “flushed” shot, where the dynamics of hitting it on the cg, the shaft dynamic at the point of impact is perfect, and the contact between the ball and face is clean, and you optimized your club head speed through the release, timing and rhythm of that particular swing, the shot may travel its optimum distance. If you do not hit shots THAT pure a majority of the time it may seem that those shots were out of the ordinary and the result of something like a hot spot. A player may hit good shots a lot of time and get consistent distance, but occasionally when all is “perfect”, the shot may go a few yards further. When that happens it is because of the dynamics I just mentioned, not a hot spot on the face of the club. Again, I base this on my experience.
