I have a question that got me this morning. I use the bending machine at our club to check lies on clubs before/after using them when ordered new. Recently I received a new set of wedges and measured the lie which I ordered to be 2* flat. When I measured it is was just standard 64*. When I called the rep, he said “well are you centering it in the machine?”

All these years I have been lining up the scoring lines parallel to the bottom and the checking the lie. I am not sure I “center” is exactly but I do make sure it is pretty even on both sides.

I have 2 questions.

  1. If not centered would it really measure a different lie angle? I always thought not because the bending machine readouts go off the right angles already fixed by the manufacturer.
  2. How does one best measure the “center” on the full face groove wedges? Measure the bottom groove and find the center and then put it in the machine?

Thank you in advance. My OCD nature is bugging the heck out of me at work and can’t wait to go to the club this evening to check.
