After putting my STi2 irons into the bag I am looking to build a 54 degree wedge with moderate bounce and sole width. In going through my stash of wedges I came across an old Maltby CER 8620 oil soaked wedge at 54 degrees and 8 degrees of bounce. How would this wedge compare with an M Series + Tour 54 degree at 10 degrees of bounce?
The CER profile is a little smaller and the sole width is a little wider. Also, the grooves on the CER would be in accordance to the guidelines before the 2010 rules change and we did not submit that model for approval by the USGA. Head weights are within a few grams and the bounce, as you pointed out, is different by 2 degrees. Very slight difference in the offset, with the M+ Series having about .020″ more. Personally I like the M+ Series better and it is conforming to the USGA rules.
