Are older clubs with higher MPF (e.x. Ping Raptures) really more friendly than newer tech (TS2s) with a bit lower MPF?

Apologies for the delay. Good question. MPF is MPF, no matter what year. MPF is based on the mass and dimensional characteristics of the head. There can be slight variations in specific cg locations from models to models and each affects the MPF differently. The Rapture is Ultra Game Improvement and the TS2 is Super Game Improvement and a big part of that is the vertical cg number, the blade length, the MOI and the rearward cg. Based on the numbers, the Rapture would be a little more forgiving. It is a larger profile head as well and I consider it a different category of iron. The TS2 is what I consider a players cavity / distance iron. The Rapture I would not call a Players iron in any form. It is a Game Improvement improvement category iron (not MPF category, but generalization of the type of iron the industry would call it). We have stated, and Ralph has said this from the beginning of the MPF, most players will not be able to tell the difference in 100 points of MPF. There is more than that difference between the TS2 and the original Rapture and that is why I think Rapture could be more forgiving. That being said, Super Game Improvement designs, like the TS2, are very forgiving as well. The TS2 does have more tech in it as well, with the thin face technology, polymer injection and internal tungsten weighting to insure precise cg location. Also, the TS2 has modern lofts (26 deg. #6 iron vs 29 deg. for the Rapture). That will definitely make a difference in how far you hit them. All in all, both are great irons, but are different in their features and specs.
