My customer hit a rock with his PTM Chrome 5 iron, put a small chip in the sole after a month of play. Outside of having it sent in for repair, are there any other options? Is it actually chrome, or is it just a polishing method? Outside of wiping the club down and ensuring the head is dry, is there anything I can do to ensure the future integrity of the club?
It is a chrome head. If the rock damaged the chrome, it will eventually rust in that spot, but that really doesn’t hurt the playability of the club. To be honest, it might be simpler for him to just replace the head. At $34.99 for a new head, it would be less expensive than a repair, if we could even repair it to like new, and it the time frame would be minimal. Repairing would involve re-chroming and that process can take 2 months and cost significantly more than $34.99. He could play with it as is until winter and then have it re-headed, if that works better.
