I know there are several OEM’s that uses urethane or some type of fillers in hollow head irons to enhance feel to Quiet vibrations etc some invest hundreds of thousands of dollars and hours to make up there secret sauce to make different urethane materials softer iam wondering even when they do find softer more Resilient material can you tell the difference from one material to the next or one company to the next company especially in cased in an iron head forged or cast is there a performance, feel, distance difference all in attempt to get that soft solid butter feel you get from a forged iron?

Basically all injected materials are for sound and vibration dampening. Although there are a variety of materials/polymers that are used, I have seen no data that supports that one enhances performance over another. The amount, the position and the material all can influence the feel and sound, but without extensive comparison testing it would be difficult to know if someone could tell a difference. It is a good technique and technology to use because, in combination with different steels and manufacturing techniques, it does allow for thinner face designs that can enhance performance. It’s not so much about a “spring like” effect the thinner faces can provide (very slight and only in lower lofted irons) but in the re-allocation of weight to make the design more stable. Also, getting back to the sound and feel, if you do a thin face, hollow design and do not fill the void, it will have a sound and feel that is not desirable, in my experience. Sometimes, depending on the design, material and face thickness you can get away with no polymer like material inside the head. It just depends on those elements.
