I am currently changing shafts in Ping i525 heads with the Mitsubishi MMT .370. I plan to have the MMT’s shafts Pured. I know the Ping hosel is large, except at the very bottom, approx. 1/2 inch where it tapers down. Also, the MMT shafts are made with a metal mesh.
Does it matter if you Pure the shafts before tip trimming and sanding and is there a better way to sand the tip than a Belt Sander?

Pings require a.355″ taper tip shaft. You will either have to use .355″ shafts (not sanded down .370″), or ream out the hosels. We can order the MMT in .355″. We just don’t stock them. I know some club builders have sanded down .370 shafts to fit with no issues, but we would not recommend it and if you have a failure, there would be no warrant consideration.

Apologies for not answering the Pureing question. Pureing after trimming is fine, or Pureing before is fine. Either way will help. In theory, Pureing after trimming might be the more precise way to do it. That being said, I have Pured a shaft before and then Pured after and the difference in the mark, at least in the one test I did, was negligible. Different shafts might get different results.
