What is the anticipated distance change when you lengthen or shorten the shaft a 1/2 inch? Adding or subtracting club head weight for the length as required. Player has consistent swing and contact. As an example, we could assemble the H5 starting with steel at 38.5″ (-1/2) and the graphite at 40″ (+1/2).

1/2″ in length change does not affect shot length that much. Generally speaking, a 1″ increase in club length increases club head speed by 1 mph. 1 mph increase in clubhead speed can increase distance by approximately 2.3 yards. So, 1/2″ increase in club length would be less (1.15 yards). Of course this can be different for different players, but that is what the general rules are. Overall club weight can have an influence as well. A 20 gram drop in overall club weight could generate another 1 mph in club head speed, meaning again 2.3 yards. So if you made a hybrid 1/2″ longer and reduced the total club weight by 20 grams, the general rules tell us you might see 3.45 yards of increase (1/2″ length increase = 1.15 yards, 20 gram drop in total weight = 2.3 yards).
