Haven’t used the Irwin extractors specifically, but on our YouTube channel we have a video showing how to remove broken shafts using our shaft extractors. Generally, the extractor is taped into the hosel with the broken steel shaft, heat is applied and using the T-bar handle on the extractor you twist and the shaft will come out. You may have to tap with a hammer to get a good bite on the broken shaft (steel), but the shaft should come out. Graphite is different and requires different tools and procedures. definitely need to do it by hand. A T-Handle or the “extractor” tool work best. I prefer the T-Handle:
