I’m looking to build the set from a pak on GolfWorks but Maltby and FST shafts are both new to me. I’m looking for any heads up or tips that could prove valuable before the trigger is pulled….thanks in advance
I have moved my MMB-17s to these as I wanted a cheap alternative to the KBS C-Taper TS I was playing. I love these shafts, I had a 6 iron built to test, had Golfworks tip them an extra 1/2in to stiffen them up some more from the X trim code IR35 and that seems to work nicely.
I would build one first, test it then decide.
I’m not sure if it will help you, but I’ve been using either True Temper Dynamic Gold S300, or, more recently, Project X 6.0 steel shafts in my irons. They’re excellent for my swing speed and tempo and they give me a lower ball flight, which is what I need. What’s best for you depends mainly on your club head speed, tempo, and trajectory.
Just a couple of observations that I hope will help. First, the TE Forged is a fabulous true forged design – a great choice. Second, I have tested and hit the FST Pro 125 stepless and have found it to be much softer than the flex indicated, more than a full flex softer. Even additional tip trimming may not be sufficient to make it as stiff as you’d like. Depending on your current clubhead speed and trajectory, you may want to consider a different shaft.
Which shaft did you move on to?
I’m looking to stiffen the shaft from what I’d been playing to be able to lower the flight more
