I love the feel and the looks of this combo but I have been struggling with hitting the ball way too high and struggling bit with distance. I know the DBM heads have the lowest cog and the AXE Tour X, S shafts might not be helping me. I have some KE4 tour Plus heads with those shafts and don’t have the ballooning issue. My driver swing speed is 105 and I have an aggressive transition and strike down and through on the ball. I want to stay forged and was thinking of either reshafting with a DG S300 amt or swapping to the MMB 17 heads. Any thoughts, possible different AXE shaft?

It is difficult to say why you are getting the ball flight you are getting with that combination. Maybe the combination of the Tour X weight and flex distribution with the DBM head just produces a higher ball flight for you. The lofts of the DBM and the KE4 Tour are basically the same, that that is not a factor. The Dynamic Gold S300 is definitely a low trajectory shaft, so I would think the DG S300 in the DBM would give you a lower flight. I know in the development of the Tour X, with it’s construction, traditional flex profiles just did not work with the materials and construction and a normal S flex played and felt way too stiff. To get the shafts to register in the traditional S range and feel like an S, the profile was actually weakened slightly. It is a Stiff, but possibly a weaker true flex profile stiff than some others, especially the DGS300. I could not say for sure, but your action, release, etc. may simply need a heavier, more traditional true “S” profile to keep the ball down.

How much of an influence is the lower COG with the DBM having on the higher launch. On the simulator the KE4 which us just 1 degree stronger is performing substantially further given the same shaft, flex and length. Carry average on the KE4 5 iron was 197. The DBM 5 iron was 183. I’m scratching my head over the disparity. Lofts were checked as well.

I would expect the higher VCOG of the MMB-17s to help to lower the launch angle, but you might first consider going with the TTDG S400s in your DBMs. Maybe reshaft just one and see how that works.

You also said you have “an aggressive transition and strike down and through on the ball.” You might check your attack angle because if it’s a bit steep, you’ll get higher launch from the higher spin. Might be the best place to start. See if you can have forward shaft lean through impact with just a brushing of the grass through the shot.

maintaining a forward shaft lean usually is not an issue for myself. A sweeping golf swing would require me to REALLY revamp my swing. I have no height issues with the KE4 Plus Head with the same shaft make up so for me I think the very low VCOG is my issue with this setup. Its still a very playable setup as is but far from Ideal. I have some S300s that I will try and well as some FST Pro 115 shafts. I really want to keep the DBM heads in play, its just going to take some trial and error. My bail out set is the KE4s which with some time in the bag might make a strong statement to stay there.
