I am curious to know how a clubs offset affects ball flight. Does more offset make it a little easier for a weekend golfer with an inconsistent swing?

IMO – essential reason for offset is to allow more time to square the clubface at impact. that amount of time is very small, but can be significant for some. this is particularly useful for those who have a problem with a big fade/slice. it may not fix the swing flaw, but it will help reduce that slice.

Rlafoone’s primary reason for offset is correct, to give the clubface extra time to square. What it also can do is place the rearward cg further back, which can make it easier to get the ball airborne for some players. Of course loft is the primary spec for determining trajectory, but an increased rearward cg can help to a minor degree.
