I’ve always been a tinkerer and wanted to get into repairing my own clubs. I have ordered some supplies and have some old clubs ready to practice with but I am looking at workbenches to mount all of my equipment. I’m curious if anyone has experience on what the smallest workbench size that is still practical and comfortable to work with clubs. My initial guess is a bench that can fit the full length of a driver is sufficient but I am limited on space in my garage and don’t want to undersize my bench and have to deal with moving equipment back and forth to work. if anyone has any recommendations let me know!

Rlafoone, my shop is amazingly similar to your shop. Every nook and cranny
used for storage & inventory and my 3 work benches for layout, set up, and assembly. Even the the same entry doors and the rafters used for extra storage.
Just had to comment after seeing your pictures.

as time goes by, you’ll need more and more space. first pic is my original work bench. I went from a 6 ft bench in the corner of a garage to a 12×12 heated shed. I’m looking at a tear down to insttall a simulator, maybe a 12 x 20 detached garage.

Depends n what type f equipment you want to use on the bench and how much space you actually have to work with. A basic minimum dimension might be 48″ wide X 24″ deep X 36.5″ tall. I would consider that a small bench for working space but not much room to mount equipment. You could mount a vice, use it with our GGS (Golfworks Gripping Station), and still have room to put a swing weight scale and layout parts etc. Preferably doubling the length to 96″ really expands your bench top workspace. If you can’t go 96″, look at 72″ in length. You can also go a little deeper from 24″ to 27″. There are no rules, just depends on the space available for the bench and the working space you need. What ever size you can do, I would also plan on having Bench mount shaft holders (BMSH or BMSHXL) that are really useful and have shelf space below, and above if possible.

These are basic guidelines and dimensions we have on work benches around our shop here. Again knowing what equipment you want to keep on the bench would help us know exactly how big the bench would need to be.

Thanks for a speedy reply. The information was helpful. I ordered the tool shop kit which includes the vice, swingweight scale, belt sander, gripping station etc. I was planning on rearranging the garage as I can optimize to allow for more space but don’t have exact measurements left. 96″ may be difficult but 72″ would be very reasonable.
