Can the PTM chrome 5,6,7 irons be bent to match lofts of MMB-17 irons to make a PTM 5,6,7 and MMB-17 8,9,PW combo set?
Michael… who said anything about putting a 6 iron on a 7 iron shaft. Take a 6 iron TS-2 and a 6 iron MMB. Build them to correct length. The PTM 6 iron is 3° stronger and will go about as far as a a MMB 5 iron yet be much more playable. Conversely the MMb 6 iron will play in length of yardage like a PTM 7 iron. No need to build any sort of crazy head swapping. Just build to standard lengths.
What you could do is basically carry two 7 irons. One PTM and one MMB. The Ptm is 3 degrees stronger so it’s very close to the MMB 6 iron. When the set is assembled catalog the gaping on a launch monitor between the two 7 irons, that way you are only making minor loft tweaks to get your distances. You may find the distances are fine with no adjustments. The number on the sole is just a number. That may make a very nice set for you.
I myself have the Ts-2 5,6 and the TS-1 7-PW in my bag… There is a big gap between those two irons but I have been fine with the distances in play and will simply adjust my swing up or down as needed…But I hit the MMB-Blacks I have better in the 7-PW with far better dispersion. The gaps if I carry the MMB 6 iron and the TS-2 6 iron are perfect (4 degrees) so that I would game two 6 irons. Going with two 7 irons with those models would work as well as there is only a 3 degree gap. More than likely the 2-6 iron set will be my “blended Set” I also carry the M Series + wedges so the DBM finish would be nice to sort of extend in my set.
set make up would be 58, 54, GW (52), PW,9,8,7,6,6,5, 22* KE4TC, 4 wood and driver. I’m ok with the 54 and 52 as i am always in the 90-110 range and those two clubs allow me to really be precise.
