Hi, I intend to reshaft my old PING Karsten irons (I guess they are from 1975!!) . Those clubs were my first set but now I am 61 and would like to change the shafts for something lighter may be graphite ones, not very expensive. I will be pleased to recieve comments or suggestions for what would be convienent. I love this irons, still playing with them! Thank you very much for your help! Gerry
May I recommend the Nippon Pro NS 8950GH shaft. It’s lightweight and has great feel, and it comes in A, R, and S flexes and in taper tip – .355. It’s not graphite, but it doesn’t feel like most steel shafts. IMO the best and most affordable option.

The original Karsten Irons were good ones. Very playable. They take a .355 taper tip shaft, so the options for an inexpensive taper tip graphite are very limited. Least expensive taper tip graphite iron we have is the Kinetixx TS-I Trajectory Series. We developed this with Paderson (the manufacturer) and they are extremely consistent shafts. Our code number is PK0113 and they come in A, R, and S flex. The price is $39.99 ea. UST makes the Recoil and several weights come in .355″ taper tip. Recoil 65g, 80g, 95g, 100g options all could work. They run $44.99 ea. If you had the heads bored out to accept .370 shafts, there are a lot more options ranging from $12.99 (value graphite) to $21.99 and up for good to excellent product.

Gerry. I just checked the .355 in graphite. Lots available. A price conscious solution would be a lighter steel shaft.

If graphite doesn’t suit you check the .355 in Nippon Shafts. These are of the very light variety and I’ve shafted Ping Eye 2 irons with the Nippon shaft successfully. Good luck with your search.
