Currently using TS3 (4–GW), Max Milled 52°/0.90, and Max Milled 60°/1.05.
I’m relatively new to golf (<2 years), so my original approach was to keep the setup simple. I started with just a 52, then added a 60 primarily for greenside use.
While I’m new to golf, I have a background in baseball and powerlifting. My typical full swing yardages are:
PW: 150–160
GW: 140–150
52: 130–140
I struggle with hitting 60 degree full swing, not necessarily due to contact, but just getting a consistent yardage because of how high it goes.
I would like to add a 56 deg, but am interested in the DRTs. My wife has a 56 deg max milled, so I can easily re-shaft my two max milled wedges for her to complete her set.
I play in Kansas/Oklahoma mostly firm conditions.
Questions:
1. I understand full swings with wedges aren’t always recommended, but I have difficulty dialing my TS3 gap wedge from 50–150 yards. What’s the best approach to improve consistency in that range?
2. Anything wrong with switching to DRTs? I’ve seen Britt recommend them countless times so I assume that is the way to go. However, part of me thinks I do well with the max milled why not just add another?
3. I’m considering a setup of:
• 52 DRT (G)
• 56 DRT (S)
• 60 DRT (S)
If I plan to take more full swings with the 52° and 56°, would it make more sense to use G grind in both (I would still want to use 56 greenside)?
4. Shaft-wise, I currently play Nippon Modus 3 125. I’m not having any issues, but it’s the only shaft I’ve used. Should I stay consistent in wedges, or consider a different profile/stiffness?
Thank you in advance.
Thanks Britt. I appreciate the feedback. Sorry for asking such a commonly posed question.
