Maltby is a great place to start for beginner clubs! The clubs range from beginner to low handicap so they can play progressing sets as their experience levels grow.
If you’re looking for a specific club, I highly recommend the STI2 basic pack. It really can’t be beat for value and quality and you’re getting some very nice and forgiving irons that are just designed for a good overall golf experience. The TT score shafts should be a good weight for a beginner as they’re trying to find their swing. I built a graphite set of these for my dad who’s 71 and he couldn’t be happier.
You can have them go through the static fitting process and then place an order to have the set built. This way they’re also getting to know some of the other intricacies of golf club specs.
IMO if they’re just getting started, I’d just stick with the set Gap wedge and not go any higher untill they’ve mastered their controlled short shots.
Any of the Maltby hybrids are great so you could just guess on any of them and get something awesome.
Hopefully that was somewhat helpful.
